October 2018, siblings Chris and Tracy along with Tracy's husband Randy decided to follow their dreams and purchase Everts Resort together!
Chris Winchester was born in Southern Illinois within a stones throw of Carlyle Lake. It is here, Keyesport Il, that Chris was 1st introduced to fishing by his father and friends. Chris and family relocated to Cannon Falls, Mn when he was about 8 years old. Through his younger years he fished all over the state of MN pursuing Trout, Bass, Panfish, Pike , Walleyes, Catfish and Carp, Chris had caught several large catfish in his teens but it was not until he got out of high school that he really caught the Flathead Fever. Over the next decade Chris pursued Flatheads, Sturgeon and Blue Cats anywhere and everywhere he could. Spring of 2022, Chris attended the training necessary to become a licensed Master Captain by the United States Coast Guard and is now running a guiding business out of the resort. Randy and Tracy have been married for 37 years raising four amazing kids together. Though Randy is still employed full time elsewhere, you will frequently see him working around the resort as our go-to handyman. Tracy has taken over the management duties at Everts and very much enjoys bs'ing with the cabin guest and fishermen. She likes to brag about having the best office views of anyone she knows!
It is pretty common to see the entire family hanging out, heading out on the boat, fishing the shoreline, or enjoying a campfire with smores.
EVERTS HISTORY
The resort became known as Everts Resort in 1940, Started by Evelyn and Rolland Evert, who were avid outdoorsmen. In October of 2018 we were fortunate enough to get the opportunity to purchase the resort, a lifelong dream for us.
Growing up in a family of 9 children, Tracy and Chris spent much of our childhoods on the water. Their father, Frederick (Bud), loved everything hunting and fishing and that love was definitely handed down to them. They continue to make improvements to the property as well as the cabins.
During a recent remodel of Cabin 3 a "Notice To Guests" was found in the walls during demolition. This notice was written by the original owner Evelyn in her handwriting. It is treasure such as this, that tell the history of this amazing place on the shores of the Mississippi and what makes it so very special to us as well as the guest that have been coming here for years.
